Why Choose an Oak and Glass Staircase
One of the biggest benefits of combining oak and glass is the way it enhances the feeling of space within a property. Glass balustrades allow natural light to flow freely through the staircase, helping hallways and landing areas feel brighter and more open. This is particularly valuable in homes where maximising light is a priority. At the same time, the rich tones and natural grain of oak add warmth and character, preventing the space from feeling too minimal or clinical.
An oak and glass staircase also offers exceptional versatility. Whether your interior style is traditional, contemporary or somewhere in between, this combination can be tailored to suit your home. With a range of oak finishes and glass options available, you can create a new staircase that complements your existing décor while becoming a standout architectural feature that adds lasting value and visual appeal. Our guide to glass staircases explains more about the options and practical considerations.

Jarrods renovated our staircase back in 2015, giving us a classic oak and glass staircase which still looks as good as when they first fitted it. For various reasons we needed to fit another bannister on the wall side. We wanted Jarrods to do the work, especially after seeing the work of a local fitter. Chris and Rio did an excellent job as you can see from the pics. They also looked over the staircase, polishing and waxing where they thought it needed it. They worked hard and tidied up thoroughly – they were a credit to Jarrods! The bannister has future proofed our staircase in a lovely way.

Each piece of timber is hand-selected based on age, grain quality, and harvesting season to ensure minimal sap content and maximum stability.
And when it comes to finishing touches, we don’t cut corners. FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know about designing, manufacturing and installing a bespoke staircase.
Can I customise the glass panels?
Yes, every glass panel used within our oak and glass staircases can be customised to suit your personal style and the overall design of your home. At Jarrods Staircases, we understand that every property is unique, which is why we offer a wide range of glass options. Clear glass is a popular choice for homeowners looking to maximise natural light and create a clean, open feel, while frosted glass can provide additional privacy without compromising brightness. Tinted glass is another excellent option for those wanting a more contemporary appearance. We can also provide framed or frameless glass balustrades depending on the look you wish to achieve. Beyond the glass itself, we can tailor the fixings, handrails and surrounding staircase elements to ensure everything works together seamlessly. Our bespoke approach allows us to create a staircase that perfectly complements your interior while delivering the safety, durability and visual impact you expect.
How long does the installation take?
The installation timeframe for an oak and glass staircase can vary depending on the complexity of the design and the specifics of the property, but most installations are completed within two days. Before any work begins, we carry out a detailed site survey and planning process to ensure everything is manufactured accurately and ready for installation. Because every staircase is bespoke, much of the work is completed in advance at our workshop, helping to minimise disruption once we arrive on site. Our experienced installation team works efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail. During the planning stage, we will provide a clear schedule so you know exactly what to expect throughout the process. We always aim to complete installations as smoothly as possible, ensuring your new staircase is fitted correctly, safely and to the high standard that Jarrods Staircases is known for.
Do you offer renovation or replacement?
Yes, at Jarrods Staircases we offer both complete staircase replacements and staircase renovation services. The right solution often depends on the condition of your existing staircase, your budget and the final look you want to achieve. For some homeowners, a full replacement is the best option, particularly if the staircase is outdated, structurally compromised or no longer suits the property. Others may find that a renovation provides the perfect balance between transformation and cost-effectiveness. A renovation can include replacing handrails, balustrades, treads or other visible features while retaining the existing staircase structure. This can dramatically improve the appearance of the staircase without the need for a complete rebuild. During our consultation, we assess your staircase and discuss your goals before recommending the most suitable option. Whether you choose a renovation or a full replacement, our aim is always to create a staircase that enhances your home and stands the test of time.
Are your materials sustainable?
Yes, sustainability is an important part of how we operate at Jarrods Staircases. We carefully source our timber from responsible suppliers who follow ethical forestry and harvesting practices. This helps ensure that the materials we use are obtained in a way that supports long-term environmental sustainability while maintaining the high quality our customers expect. We believe that creating beautiful staircases should not come at the expense of natural resources. By selecting high-quality hardwoods such as oak, walnut, maple and sapele, we also create staircases that are built to last for decades, reducing the need for replacement and unnecessary waste. Our manufacturing processes are focused on quality and efficiency, helping to minimise material waste wherever possible. Sustainability and craftsmanship go hand in hand, and we are committed to delivering bespoke staircases that not only look exceptional but are also produced with consideration for the environment and future generations.
Is an oak and glass staircase suitable for period homes?
Absolutely. Oak and glass staircases can work exceptionally well in period properties when designed with care and consideration. At Jarrods Staircases, we regularly create bespoke staircases for older homes throughout the UK, blending traditional materials with contemporary design features. Oak naturally complements the character of period properties because of its warmth, grain and timeless appearance. When combined with glass, it introduces a more modern element without overwhelming the original features of the home. The key is ensuring the design is tailored to the property. We take time to understand the architecture, proportions and existing details before creating a staircase that feels appropriate for the space. In many cases, an oak and glass staircase provides the perfect balance between preserving traditional character and introducing a fresh, modern aesthetic. The result is a staircase that enhances the property while respecting its heritage and unique architectural qualities.
How do I maintain my staircase?
Oak and glass staircases are relatively low maintenance, making them a practical choice for modern living. Regular cleaning is usually all that is needed to keep the staircase looking its best. The oak components can be wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove dust and everyday dirt. It is best to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products, as these can affect the finish of the timber over time. Glass panels can be cleaned using a standard glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to maintain their clarity and shine. Periodically checking for any signs of wear and addressing minor issues promptly will help preserve the staircase’s appearance and longevity. At Jarrods Staircases, we provide detailed aftercare guidance following installation so you know exactly how to look after your investment. With the right care, an oak and glass staircase will remain a beautiful and durable feature within your home for many years.
